Wor bride’s actual teenage years

2000s Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleThe decade she still knows by heart.

Ask a room of thirty-somethings to name a noughties chorus and you’ll still be there at closing. This is the decade most brides genuinely lived inside — CD singles bought on a Saturday, frosted lip gloss, the school disco where somebody’s big brother guarded the stereo — so the whole thing starts from total recall instead of polite guessing. Your number gets composed on the day around whatever your lot shout loudest about, in one of three central rooms we hire or out at the house you’ve booked anywhere across the North East. £170 covers the ninety minutes and £145 the hour, with only the venue’s hire cost on top. No experience needed; knowing the words counts double.

See if my date’s free

Right then — when, and how many?

A date, a rough headcount and any thought at all about start time is plenty to work with. By the end of the day you’ll know whether the slot is open, which of the three rooms fits a group your size, and what each of the two costs comes to — teaching on one side, room hire on the other, never mashed together into one figure. Still arguing about the decade in the group chat? Book it undecided and pick when you’ve won.

Why the noughties keep winning the vote

Nothing to learn first.

Some themes ask the party to sit through a film beforehand. A 2000s hen party dance class asks nothing of the sort, because the material has been sitting in everyone’s head since year nine and it comes back the second the intro plays. That head start changes what the session actually is: instead of ten minutes explaining the reference, your teacher spends the lot building your dance hen party number — the sync bits, the bridge where the bride gets the middle, the slow-motion ending that will be filmed four times. It is also the broadest church on the list. Chart pop for the cousins, R&B for the ones who went out in town, a garage bassline for whoever still claims she was there. As hen do dance class picks go it flatters an ordinary group of friends more than almost anything else, and among the hen party ideas people bring us it is the one where nobody has to pretend to be enthusiastic.

One

Coats off, phones down

Introductions, a quick read of the room, and the first intro drops before anyone’s had chance to feel self-conscious about it.

Two

A warm-up that isn’t one

Eight minutes of noughties shapes that look like larking about and quietly install every move the routine will lean on later.

Three

The number takes shape

Track chosen by reaction, sections stacked one at a time, and whoever keeps drifting to the front gets given the front properly.

Four

Filmed while it’s hot

Two or three takes at the end, the good one straight into the group chat, where it stays in circulation until the wedding.

no two parties leave with the same routine, because none of it exists beforehand

Room to build something with a proper ending, and time to film it more than once.

The condensed version for weekends with a table booked at seven. Shorter, not thinner.

Where

Three rooms, one canny walk from everything.

Each of the rooms we hire has the floor and the ceiling height a noughties routine wants, plus the far more important quality of being a short walk from wherever the night is heading. Whichever one you take gets named in the quote, with its hire cost written beside the teaching fee.

I picked the decade because it was mine, and the teacher somehow read that in ten minutes and built the whole thing round it. Easily the bit of the weekend everyone still talks about.

The bits organisers always ask.

six answers, no small print ↓

Which 2000s tracks end up in the routine?+

Whichever ones your lot react to hardest in the first quarter of an hour. The teacher turns up with the whole decade loaded — chart pop, R&B, a bit of garage, the odd indie stomper — then watches which intro makes the room shriek and builds from there. Requests are welcome on the day; a printed setlist promised in advance is not something we do.

Does the group have to dress the decade?+

Not remotely. Anything worn is sourced by your own gang — the studio holds no wardrobe and lends nothing out — so plenty of parties turn up in leggings and trainers and get exactly the same session. If somebody does dig out a bandana and a pair of oversized sunglasses, the photos improve, that is all.

What is the full price of a 2000s hen class here?+

Two figures, both written down before anybody commits: £170 for ninety minutes or £145 for sixty, covering the entire party, plus the hire cost of the venue you choose. Hold it at the house you have booked and that venue figure drops to nothing. Nobody is ever counted individually.

Will this land if half the party hates dancing?+

That half is precisely who the pace is set for. Steps arrive one at a time, the reluctant ones get parked at the back until they forget they are reluctant, and the whole thing is pitched nearer karaoke than audition. Nobody is singled out and nobody is made to solo.

Can we fit the class in before the Bigg Market?+

It is the running order most Newcastle parties land on. Take a late-afternoon slot, walk five minutes back to the hotel from Newgate Street or Neville Street, change, do the photos by Grey’s Monument, then go. Expect fragments of the routine to reappear at closing time.

Is there a smallest group size you will take?+

None at all. Six hens or twenty-six, the teaching fee is the identical flat figure, because it pays for a teacher’s afternoon rather than a headcount. Small parties tend to get more individual attention out of it, which is rarely a bad thing.

If the decade loses the vote.
