RuPaul Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleRunway walk first. Everything else follows.

Drag has been the most reliable request on our list for three years running, and the reason is simple: it hands everybody a character to hide behind for ninety minutes. Your teacher starts with the walk, adds attitude, then choreographs their own material around whoever your group turn out to be — the shy cousin usually ends up at the front. The whole party is covered by one figure — £170 for the ninety, or £145 if an hour suits better — with only the venue’s hire cost on top. Wigs, heels and anything sequinned come out of your own bags. No experience is needed, only a willingness to look ridiculous with conviction.

The date, roughly how many, and a start time if you have one in mind. You will hear back the same day with the date confirmed free or not, a room suggestion to match your numbers, and the money set out in two lines rather than one. howay and hold the date first — the group chat can vote on wigs later.

Why drag wins the vote

A character to hide behind.

Most themes ask a hen party to be themselves, only louder. A RuPaul hen do dance class does the opposite: it hands everybody somebody else to be for an hour and a half, and that is exactly why it works on groups who swear blind they cannot dance. The walk comes first, because a runway walk is mostly confidence and timing rather than technique, and everyone has it by the fourth attempt. After that come the arms, a dip or two, and a finish sharp enough to be worth filming. It suits mixed groups better than almost anything else on the list — brothers, dads and best mates of any gender are all welcome and all learn the same material. Of the hen party ideas that end up as the story people tell at the wedding, this one has a very high hit rate, and as a dance hen party it needs no props at all, since every wig, heel and sequin comes out of your own wardrobe.

01

Coats off, walk on

Straight into the walk, because standing about discussing it makes everybody more nervous, not less.

02

Attitude, then arms

Vogue hands, a lean, a look over the shoulder — the small things that make the video worth keeping.

03

The number gets written

The teacher decides in the room which sections fit your group, then stacks them into something with an ending.

04

Lights, film, stills

One run for the camera and a few staged shots after, and the Ouseburn is ten minutes away when the Toon calls.

nothing here is pre-planned — the material is decided by who walks through the door.

Ninety minutes£170+ the venue’s hire cost

Time for a full runway sequence, the arms, and a properly filmed finish.

One hour£145+ the venue’s hire cost

Walk, attitude and one tight section — enough for the video, done by seven.

the fee covers the room and not the register — hen party activities counted per head are not how this works.

Where

Three rooms, one runway.

A runway wants length more than width, and all three of the rooms we hire have enough of it for a proper walk. Whichever one we put you in is named in your quote alongside its hire cost, before anything is agreed.

The bride’s dad came along expecting to hold the coats and finished the session in the front row doing the walk. That video has been played at every family event since.

Do we all need to be in full drag?+

Not remotely. Some parties go all out with wigs and lashes, plenty turn up in jeans, and the class is identical either way. Anything you wear comes from your own wardrobe or a fancy-dress shop of your choosing; we hold no stock.

Is this a lip-sync show or a dance class?+

It is a dance class, taught by a dance teacher, in a room hired for your group. Nobody performs to an audience and nobody is judged. If your lot decide to mime the words while dancing that is entirely your business, but the thing being taught here is choreography.

What is the full cost of a drag hen class?+

One fee — £170 for ninety minutes, £145 for sixty — plus the venue’s hire cost, and it does not move whether nine of you turn up or nineteen. At your own hen house the venue side is nothing. Nobody is counted or charged individually at any point.

Can men and non-binary friends join the party?+

Yes, and they often do. Everyone learns the same material, nobody is handed a lesser part, and the teacher will not split the room by gender. Drag is a good deal more fun when the group is mixed, in our experience.

Nobody in our group can manage heels+

Then nobody wears them. Trainers work perfectly well and quite a few people find the walk easier in flats. If some of you do want heels, bring a pair already broken in and keep something flat in the bag for the warm-up.

Will we learn proper vogue arms and a runway walk?+

Both, usually in that order, though how much of each depends on what your group take to. Nothing is promised before the day because the teacher decides in the room — if your lot are natural with the arms, you get more of them.

How long does the finished routine end up being?+

Usually a minute or two, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. Length is a decision made on the day rather than a target set in advance, because a short piece done sharply beats a long one nobody quite remembers.
