Greatest Showman Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleArms out, chins up, everyone at once.

Some themes struggle once the guest list passes twenty. This one improves. Greatest Showman is anthem music — big unison shapes, a wide travelling section and an ending designed for a crowd — so the more hens who turn up, the better the last eight counts look. Your teacher composes it on the day for the exact number in front of them: £170 for the ninety minutes or £145 for the hour, plus only the venue’s hire cost, whether that is nine of you or twenty-nine. No dance experience is assumed of anybody.

Check the date

How many, and when?

Those two answers get you most of the way. Send the date and a rough number and you will hear back inside the day with availability, the room out of the three we hire that comfortably takes your party, and both costs in writing — teaching fee first, the venue’s hire cost beside it. Numbers moving about is normal and changes nothing about the price.

the fee does not notice how many of you there are ✦

Why big groups pick it

Made for a crowd.

Most themes are written for a dozen people and then stretched. This one starts from the assumption that a lot of bodies are going to move at the same time, and that is a genuinely different piece of choreography. Unison is forgiving: twenty-two hens all reaching upward on the same beat looks magnificent even when four of them are half a count behind, and nobody is exposed doing something intricate on their own. It also solves the awkward maths that makes a big hen party dance class expensive elsewhere, because one flat fee simply does not care whether the minibus holds twelve or thirty. The soundtrack helps too — it is stadium-shaped music that people already sing in the car, so the room is warm before the first step is taught. Choose it as your hen do dance class and the mams, the teenagers and the friend who claims she cannot dance all end up in the same line doing the same thing. Run as a dance hen party it flatters everyone at once. Of all the hen party ideas that survive a group vote, this is the one that scales.

1Unison hides everything.Big shared shapes on big beats — nobody is left doing something fiddly alone.
2The fee ignores headcount.Four more hens joining in March costs precisely nothing extra.
3Costume stays yours.Top hats, tailcoats and sequins are a brilliant idea and never something we supply or lend.

Everyone in the room

Coats down, a headcount, and the space arranged so that even a party of thirty can all see the front.

Ten minutes of reaching, stepping and stopping that quietly turns out to be the whole vocabulary.

Your teacher invents in the room — where the lines form, who steps forward, which beat everyone hits — reading the party rather than a plan.

Where it happens

A room that fits everyone.

With a large party the floor size decides the shape of the routine, so the room gets chosen against your numbers rather than the other way round. All three we hire have hosted big groups; the quote names yours and its hire cost before anything is agreed.

Twenty-six of us aged nineteen to seventy-four, all in one room, all hitting the last shape together. I have not seen my daughter laugh like that in years.

The bit where everyone throws their arms out and the music goes up still gets played at family parties. Worth every penny of a fee that never changed when four more turned up.

the seven that decide it for most organisers ↓

Does a party of thirty still work for this?+

It is the size this theme was chosen for. Nothing in the choreography depends on small numbers, the fee does not change, and there is no minimum or maximum headcount to negotiate — the only real constraint is floor space, which is why the room gets picked after you tell us how many are coming. Thirty hens hitting one shape together is the best version of this afternoon, and a canny sight from the doorway.

Is there any circus or acrobatic work involved?+

None whatsoever. Nobody is lifted, nobody is thrown and nobody balances on anybody. The spectacle in this routine comes from unison, from arms and from timing — big shapes made by a lot of people at once. Anyone hoping for aerial silks will be disappointed; everyone with a dodgy shoulder and a healthy sense of self-preservation will be relieved.

Do you hand out top hats or tailcoats?+

Never, and we hold no wardrobe of any kind. Costume is entirely the party’s own to organise, which is why so many groups land on one shared item — a red jacket for the bride, black for everybody else — rather than a full hire. The class runs precisely the same in leggings, and no part of the routine assumes you are wearing anything in particular.

Is one of us expected to front it as ringmaster?+

Only if somebody wants to. The bride is offered the middle and often takes it; sometimes the mother of the bride does instead, and sometimes the party votes for whoever is loudest. If nobody fancies being singled out, the teacher writes the routine so that every line has its own moment and no one person is left standing alone at the front.

Will we be expected to sing along at all?+

Not expected, but rarely preventable. This is a dance class rather than a singing one, so nothing is asked of anybody vocally and nobody is handed a microphone. What tends to happen is that by the third run-through the whole room is bellowing the chorus anyway, which the teacher will simply let happen because it makes the filmed ending far better.

What is the total price for our whole group?+

£170 buys the ninety-minute session or £145 the hour, whole party in, and the venue’s hire cost for your room is the only thing added — both numbers put in writing before you commit. Dance at the house you have rented and no room cost arises at all. Whether fourteen or thirty of you turn up on the day, the fee is the fee.

Which of your rooms fits a big Showman party?+

Newgate Street usually, because it takes the widest lines; Neville Street when the party is arriving by train and wants to walk two minutes; Jesmond Road for mid-sized groups staying that side of the city. All three are rooms we hire rather than places we run, and the one we suggest is always the one your headcount actually needs.
