Dirty Dancing Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleMambo first, questions after.
Nobody is putting the bride in a lake first. What actually happens is ninety minutes of Latin-flavoured, partner-free mambo taught in lines, so an odd number of hens is never a problem and a late drop-out breaks nothing. The routine is invented in the room for the group your teacher can see, It can happen in a hired room in the middle of town, or in the front room of wherever you’re all staying, which is a canny fix when the group is scattered. Ninety minutes runs to £170 and sixty to £145, with the venue’s hire cost the only other number in play. No experience required — most people arrive having last danced properly at somebody’s wedding.
Nobody puts a date in the corner.
Send the date, a rough number and roughly when you would like to start. Within the day you’ll get availability, the room out of the three that suits your group best, and two written figures — what the teaching costs and what the room costs. This theme goes early on summer Saturdays, so asking sooner is worth more than asking politely. Not settled on it yet? Hold the date as undecided and change your mind for free.
the lift is optional; the form really isn’t ✦
Swagger you can learn.
There is a reason a Dirty Dancing hen party dance class outsells almost everything else on the list: the film handed a whole generation a very specific picture of what confidence looks like, and ninety minutes is long enough to borrow a decent amount of it. The steps themselves are mambo and cha-cha shapes slowed down into something teachable — a step, a hip, a hold, a look — and they are taught in lines facing front, so nobody needs a partner and nobody gets stranded when the numbers come out odd. That makes it a forgiving hen do dance class for mixed ages, given that the hardest thing in the whole session is holding eye contact. Run as a dance hen party it delivers the thing brides ask for most often: a moment that looks like the film without anyone having to be athletic about it. Of all the hen party activities that end up on a shortlist, this is the one people have been quietly imagining since they were about fifteen — which is precisely why it tops so many lists of hen party ideas in the first place, year after year.

Where it happens.
This one wants a proper floor — smooth enough to turn on, not so polished that anybody slides into a radiator. All three of the rooms we hire pass that test, and your quote names which one is held for you and what its hire costs before you agree to a thing.
Reports from the practice room.
We asked about the lift and got told straight: maybe, if the floor is right and you actually want it, and honestly most groups don’t. That honesty is why we booked.Bridesmaid · party of 12 · Hexham
Eighteen of us and not one partner between us, and it still worked. Everyone in lines, everyone with a job, and the bride got her moment at the front.Chief bridesmaid · party of 18 · Jesmond
I had braced myself for something I could not possibly do at sixty-one. It turned out to be walking, hips and a lot of laughing, and I did the whole thing.Bride’s mam · party of 8 · Cramlington
The lift, and everything else.
eight straight answers ↓
Will we actually do the lift from the film?+
Honestly: possibly, and probably not. It is entirely the teacher’s call on the day and it depends on the floor, the ceiling, the space and whether the group genuinely wants it. Where it does happen it is a supported, floor-level version at roughly waist height with people spotting — nobody goes overhead and nobody gets thrown. Most parties never ask, the routine is built to work perfectly well without it, and you should treat it as a possible bonus rather than something you have paid for.
Do we each need a partner for this class?+
No. The whole thing is taught in lines facing front, which is the reason it copes so well with hen parties: fifteen people, seventeen people, somebody pulling out on the Friday night — none of that breaks anything. If two of you want to try the partnered version of a section, your teacher can show it, but it is not the default and nobody is paired off against their will.
What are we paying in total for this class?+
The teaching fee is £170 for ninety minutes or £145 for sixty, and the venue’s hire cost is added separately rather than folded in, with both written down before you commit. Run it at the hen house you have rented and there is no venue cost whatsoever. It is never worked out by the head.
Which songs does the routine get built around?+
Your teacher settles that after getting a proper look at the room. The soundtrack is short enough that everybody has a favourite in there, and the arrangement follows the energy actually in front of them rather than a plan drawn up three weeks earlier. Shout your request on the day and it will be heard.
Is there anything we should wear or avoid?+
Something you can move your hips in, and shoes you can pivot in — trainers or flat pumps beat anything with heavy grip. Costume of any kind is yours to organise; we do not lend, stock or hire out outfits, shoes or anything else, and the class looks exactly the same in leggings.
Can the class come to our cottage instead?+
Yes, and a good third of these run exactly that way. The teacher travels out across the North East, you clear the biggest room in the house before everyone gans out for the night, and the venue line on your quote reads zero. All it really needs is enough floor for everybody to take two steps sideways at once.
How far ahead do summer Saturdays get taken?+
Further ahead than people expect for this particular theme. Spring and summer weekends often go two or three months out, and a Saturday afternoon in June is the first thing to disappear. Asking early costs nothing and holds the slot while the group argues it out.
Is it too much for someone with a dodgy knee?+
Tell us in the message and it gets designed around. There is no jumping in it as standard, the pace is deliberate rather than quick, and your teacher can hand one person a lower-impact version of any section without making an announcement about it.
