Confidence, not clothing removal

Burlesque Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleAll tease, nothing off.

Let us clear up the thing everybody quietly wonders about first: nothing comes off. A burlesque hen party dance class is about attitude — the slow walk, the glove peel that stops dead at the wrist, chair work that is far more about timing than flexibility — and it lands best on groups who arrive fully clothed and stay that way all afternoon. Your teacher pitches it wherever your group’s comfort actually sits, in one of three central rooms we hire or at your hen house anywhere across the North East. £170 for the ninety-minute session, £145 for the hour, and the venue’s hire cost is the only other number involved. No experience needed: confidence is the thing being taught, not assumed.

Dates and figures

Start with the date, pet.

All we really need is the date and a rough number. Back within the day comes availability, the room of the three that suits you best, and two costs set out separately — what the class costs and what the room costs. If nobody has agreed on a theme yet, the date is still very much worth claiming; everything else can be changed right up to the final week.

A person comes back to you inside the day.

What it actually involves

Attitude, fully dressed.

The version of burlesque sold to hen parties elsewhere leans heavily on kit — feathers and gloves handed round at the door. Ours does not, and that is deliberate: nothing is handed out, everything you wear or wave belongs to your own group, and the class is built to work perfectly if all fourteen of you turn up in leggings. What gets taught instead is the harder and rather more useful thing — how to hold a pause, how to walk as though the room is watching, how to make a shoulder roll read from twenty feet away. That is why a burlesque hen do dance class tends to change the mood of a group rather than simply tire it out. It stays entirely tasteful throughout: no clothing is removed, nobody is asked to do anything they have not agreed to, and the shyest hen gets given a job that suits her. Among the hen party activities available in the Toon it is the one most often described afterwards as unexpectedly empowering, and of the hen party ideas that survive the group chat, this dance hen party is the one the bride’s closest friends push hardest for.

The three rooms

Somewhere with a door that shuts.

Burlesque wants privacy rather more than it wants square footage — a room nobody wanders through halfway. All three rooms we hire give you exactly that, plus a floor that takes a chair and a decent stretch of mirror. Nothing is agreed until you have seen in writing which room it is and what it costs.

Our teacher clocked within a minute that two of the group were mortified and quietly built them a job inside the routine. Absolute class.

Burlesque, straight up.

eight honest answers ↓

Does anyone have to take clothes off?+

No, and nobody ever has. The whole class is taught fully clothed and the tease lives in timing, eye line and the pause before a move rather than in anything being removed. If that is the group’s worry, say so in the form and we will put it in writing.

Do you provide boas, gloves or fans?+

We do not, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. Anything you want to wave belongs to your own group, and the routine is built so that empty hands work just as well. Most parties bring one or two bits between them and share.

What will a burlesque hen class cost us?+

One figure for the group: £170 for ninety minutes or £145 for sixty, then the hire cost of whichever venue you pick, both stated in writing before you agree. Run it where you are already staying and the venue part costs nothing at all. No head counting is involved.

Is burlesque suitable for a shy or nervous group?+

It is often the best possible choice for one. Your teacher spends the first ten minutes reading the room and then builds to that level rather than to a template, so the quiet ones get a role that flatters them instead of a solo they never wanted.

Do we need to be flexible or fit?+

Neither. The chair work looks far more demanding than it is, and every move has a standing alternative for anyone who would rather not sit. The style rewards stillness and control, which is genuinely age-proof and knee-proof.

Is there a dress code we should agree on?+

Nothing formal. Something you can move in and shoes you trust — trainers for learning, heels only for the filmed run if the group fancies it. Black is popular because it photographs well. Anything more elaborate is a decision for your group, not a requirement from us.

Can you run it at our hen house?+

Yes, right across the North East. A cleared room, a speaker and a door that shuts is the entire specification. Nothing about the class changes, and the venue cost falls out of the quote altogether.

Does booking this lock us into the theme?+

No. The date and the room are the parts worth securing; what gets taught inside them can be swapped for nothing, right up to about a week before you arrive.
